[Liveaboard Q&A] [Rules of liveaboard] [Liveaboard review of skills]
A dive cruise is a type of diving tour in which you stay on a comfortable ship fully equipped with bedrooms and showers and visit sites offshore. When you wake up in the morning, the Similan Islands, surrounded by a crystal clear blue ocean, will be right there before your eyes. You won't have to walk around carrying heavy tanks or feel tired from travelling long distance. Instead, you'll dive, eat, sleep and dive again. You'll enjoy a luxurious diving holiday. After you've dived to the full, you can have a drink under a star-studded sky. This kind of luxurious diving is unique to dive cruises, and it's the ultimate way to dive - have fun, feel comfortable and dive often at sites that you have longed to visit.
During a dive cruise, you'll visit different sites and areas as the boat moves along. This means that the underwater scenes and marine life you encounter will differ with each dive and you'll enjoy some extremely varied dives with us. You'll also visit sites that are far away and unreachable in a day due to time constraints, and you'll dive early in the morning or in the evening when the fish are most active. This greatly increases your chances of dynamic encounters, such as large, impressive creatures or migratory species in the middle of feeding. Of course, night dives are available too.
The words dive cruise may sound a little hard or intimidating, but in fact, they're not. Setting up gear can feel like a hassle but you'll only do that once before each dive. At other times, the crew will fill up your tank and you won't have to remove your gear by yourself. While you prepare to enter the water, your guide and the crew will be there throughout. After putting on your gear, it's only a few steps to the platform. The captain will also steer the ship on top of the dive site so there will be almost no swimming on the surface. He'll also pick you up as you exit the water. This makes our cruises suitable for elderly divers or women who may not feel confident about their fitness levels.
During the cruise from the Similan Islands to Richelieu Rock, you'll dive a maximum of 4 times a day. Even during the shorter 1-night 2-day cruise you'll be able to dive 7 times, so even if you only have a short holiday you'll still dive a lot (generally our day trips include two dives per day). Our prices also include meals onboard the ship and overnight stay costs. This means that for the cost of one dive, it's much better value for money compared to staying at a resort and going on day trips. If you're going to dive a lot,at a low cost, then a dive cruise is your answer!
People joining dive cruises are always fun, pleasant and love the ocean a lot. While spending time together onboard, you'll undoubtedly make plenty of friends. Many of our divers come from Europe, America and Asian countries so the atmosphere onboard is always very international. If you share a love and wonder for the vast, open sea, language barriers are no big deal. Talk to others actively, and let's extend our circle of divers even further across the world!
Q:I'm a beginner. Is there a limit to the number of dives I have done or the dive certification I have?
A:Anyone with a certification above Open Water can join our tours. Depending on conditions at sea there may be high waves or strong currents so we recommended that customers have dived at least 20 times or more.
Q:I am worried about seasickness. Does the ship sway much?
A:During on season, the wind and waves off the Similan Islands are generally calm on most days and the weather is stable. But of course, we are dealing with nature so if a low pressure approaches or strong winds are blowing at sea far away, there may be some surge. However, at night we dock in sheltered areas off the islands that waves cannot reach so the ship doesn't sway much. Please don't worry beccause many passengers prone to seasickness have joined our tours before. If you are concerned about seasickness, we suggest that you choose a tour on a bigger ship or try an overnight short cruise . Seasickness tablets are available on our cruise ships but if you get ill quite badly, it may be more effective if you speak to a doctor or take stronger medication such as Aneron (SSP Co., Ltd) that is sold in Japan.
