Richelieu Rock is a world-class site that's the highlight of the Similan Islands.Part of the Mu Koh Surin Islands National Park, it's a limestone rock rising almost vertically from 35m.There are no other islands or rocky reefs nearby within a several kilometre radius and many different species gather,including thick shoals of fish. The harsh, eroded rocky surface houses a carpet of soft coral, while macrolife such as ghost pipefish and tiger tail seahorses live in the many cracks in the rock.Barracudas and bigeye trevally surround the rock, while it's also famous for frequent sightings of bigger species such as whale sharks.

The name Richelieu Rock comes from a combination of ancient French words. Riche meaing rich, Lieu means place and Rock comes from the English word.Jacques-Yves Cousteau, the first person to dive this site (from Wikipedia),is said to have named it.
