[Entry] [Descent] [Neutral Buoyancy] [Swimming] [Ascent] [Exit]
This is the skill that you have to take the most care over when diving. In order to ascend safely and not get decompression sickness, it is important to follow procedures. Please learn the necessary skills while checking and understanding what you must be aware of when ascending.
Swim towards offshore areas so the boat can pick you up and prepare to ascend when your guide gives the safety stop signal. As you ascend, the air in your BCD will expand making it easier to float, so dump the air from your BCD little by little and ascend slowly.
Check point!
During the ascent, some people mistakenly believe that they need to put air into their BCD but please dump air from it and don't forget your posture when doing so!
The last part of the dive involves a three-minute safety stop at 5m (5m in 30 seconds), during which you will stop while maintaining neutral buoyancy. After the guide has launched the safety sausage, use the rope that drops before you as a guide. To feel more stable, breathe out if you feel you are floating and in if you feel you are sinking.
During the safety stop, try to adjust your buoyancy just by breathing and don't use your legs and arms. If you thrash around, not only will you be unable to stay in one place, but you will also consume more air as your breathing won't be stable.
After the 3-min safety stop, your guide will give the signal to ascend. Raise your right arm to make sure there is nothing above you and ascend while keeping your inflator hose straight up and dumping your air. Move slowly so that you breathe out and ascend at the same time. Please also listen out for the sound of the boat and don't ascend suddenly.
If you dump all the air in your BCD it's easier to sink, and you can then ascend by fin kicking. If you dump the air little by little, you can control your buoyancy through breathing.
Inflate your BCD and make sure you are buoyant. If there are some waves, do not remove your mask and regulator. In order to dive safely, please make sure that you have a minimum of 50 bars.
Check point! After ascending, if you are all dotted around here and there, the ship cannot pick you up. Once you are buoyant, make sure you gather around your guide.
■ A Word of Advice When diving off the Similan Islands, there is no ascent or descent line. Divers will be required to perform free descents and ascents and stop while maintaining neutral buoyancy. Having a dive computer allows you to safely manage your own dive time and depth and is also necessary on dive cruises where customers dive a lot, or for relatively deep dives. We also sell dive computers.
